The LeVan family was among the German-speaking French Huguenot refugees who fled from France to Holland, probably after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. Family tradition says they were manufacturers of brocade and taffetas in their native country, and that they were of considerable wealth.
Jacob LeVan was born about 1702 in Amsterdam. Records indicate he came to America around 1717. Jacob married Mary about 1725 in Maxatawny Twp., Berks Co., Pennsylvania. The family farmed for many generations in Berks Co. They moved to Logan Co., Ohio and eventually to Waterloo Twp., Jackson Co., Michigan. Related families include Robison, Winner, Leymaster and Leidigh.

I’m a “direct” descendant of this Jacob LeVan and he never moved outside PA. He died at his farm and is buried in the family cemetery on his property.
Thanks Brian. My wife is also a direct descendant of Jacob. We hope to get to Berks Co. at some point!
I am trying to locate Isaac Levan/Lafone that was in the Revolutionary War and moved to NC and married Mary Rosimond. I’m trying to find his parents names.
Sorry Kimberly, but I don’t have a record of your Isaac. Good luck!
Brian Strouse – My Great-Grandmother was a direct descendant of Jacob as well! I would LOVE to visit the property and the cemetery if that is possible?!?!?
Mine goes – my grandfather Paul Bear = his mother Catherine Le Van = daughter of Levi Le Van = son of Daniel Le Van = son of Peter K Le Van = son of John Le Van = son of Sebastian Le Van = son of Jacob. Who of course was the son of THE Daniel and Marie Beau Le Van of Picardy, France.
